Default Pulling ignition wires from the distributor cap

Hi folks. Should the ignition wires just pull off the distributor cap? I have tried a couple and they don't want to come off too easily. I don't want to get to forceful with them until I know they are meant to pull straight of, just want to check there is no screws or clips holding them in place.

Cheers,
Mike

Not sure your model year but yes, mine get very tight and can be quite difficult. Mine do not have any screws or fasteners, just have to muscle them off ... carefully ...

No screws. No fasteners.
Get fingers low down on the rubber boot - squeeze, wiggle, pull.
Careful not to pull the boot or wire off.

Sorry 1990 S4 uk model. I meant to update my signature with my model but couldn't see anywhere to do it in the "Edit your details" page. I'll put a bit more muscle into it.

Minimize the stress on the boot-wire connections of your $300 set of plug wires, and get really good purchase on the boots with these:

Also very handy for pulling fuel injectors from the intake manifold when you do your intake refresh....

It will also help if you can break the "suction" effect between the boot and plastic, and give them a slight twist while pulling.

What these guys said. Twist them first and use one of those tools to make the job easier.
