@123quattro. If I have understood your response correctly, it seems that really nothing I have stated is untrue or partially true. (When folks suggest I have made statements of fact that are less than accurate I get a bit defensive) And in fact you are agreeing with me that old brake fluid is not as good as new brake fluid. How would you know the brake fluid at your local store wasn't more than 2 yrs old? You can't. However I can't think of too many business that would still be selling a product that took 2 yrs to turn over it's inventory. And most likely the case the brake fluid was shipping it DOES have a manufacturing date on it. That's part of the DOT labeling requirement.

Brake fluid is interesting in that it can't "break" i.e. fail to function (not referring to boiling it where it would fail to function) You are correct in that you could use a 10 yr old brake fluid in your car and the car would still stop. Yep the boiling point would have denigrated but also you would have lost most if not all of the corrosion inhibition characteristics of the fluid.

I never stated old brake wouldn't work i.e. stop the car. I was attempting to communicate/educate on what is not generally known about brake fluid. Specifically shelf life, the additive package and what happens to brake fluid over time even as it sits in an unopened container.

Hard to imagine why that is? Possibly because of past misstatements? Man Michael, you are predictable.
