Default Brake caliper

After car was sitting for a while, I took it for a drive and realized my left front brake caliper was sticking. When I removed it, I found the boot was not in place as it should be. I removed the piston and tried getting the boot back into its groove. All I can say is P.I.T.A. After an hour of struggling I finally got it back together. If anyone has a used LF caliper for sale for an 84 please let me know, I don't trust mine to continue lasting.

This site sponsor 928 Specialists, Roger at 928srus, Pelican Parts, 928 International.
Should not be an issue finding caliper kits.

I know you can get 'em from the big 3 (2? 4?). There are a couple of ATE kits that are available elsewhere that are supposed to fit. Be curious to see if this might be a part that is a little more easily found since I have to rebuild all of mine.

I always use a thin layer of dielectric grease on assembling with new kits.
Very much simplifies the install. Have done 8 sets this way.
Just inspected one of my first during a shock job, brake kits done in 2008 and has had 40,000 miles since.
Perfect operation, perfect rotors, rebuild boot still perfect.

ATE kits are what I used.
Something like $15 each wheel.

Using only brake fluid to lube them is a total PITA.

What a difference, caliper must have been going bad for a long time. I don't have to stand on the brake pedal to stop anymore, steering is smooth, overall like a new car to me!

^^^^ OK....... uh this must be multiple guess...first a few questions.

Did you rebuild all of the calipers?
Did you rebuild both front calipers?
Did you rebuild the LF caliper?
Did you replace the LF caliper?
Did you replace the MC?
Did you install new SS brake lines?
Did you install a new steering rack?

This is too cryptic to know what you fixed and how,
So did I ask the right question?

All I have done so far is disassemble, clean, and re-assemble the left front caliper re-using the old parts. The brake hanging up made the steering feel like I had to fight to make a turn. I plan to soon rebuild all four brake calipers when I have more time. Not sure about the ss lines, who sells them? It was 70 out today in Cleveland and it was nice to get the car out of hiding. I haven't done too much with the car in a while, but now the the weather is getting better, I have enough to keep me busy.

Goodridge make some very nice SS brake lines which have a plastic coating (available in a range of colours), made to fit the 928. You just need to make sure you get the right ones.

I bought mine for S4 from the UK (in the UK, 928S calipers are from 1980-1985), although for those in the USA I believe Greg Brown is a Goodridge dealer?

After reading this entire thread again, I'm curious how I confused you mrmerlin. I stated what I did Saturday night and my test run Sunday morning is where my update came from. I am just happy to see a difference without throwing hundreds of dollars into repairs into a toy car I rarely drive. I know there is a right way, the cheap way and the fast way. I made a choice with what I had in front of me at the time and I succeeded even if it wasn't the best way. I will say thanks for everyone's feedback. Bill.

Bill, In post 1 your looking for as used LF caliper,

Then post 3 you asked about where to buy a caliper rebuild kit ,

and post 7 you stated
What a difference, caliper must have been going bad for a long time. I don't have to stand on the brake pedal to stop anymore, steering is smooth, overall like a new car to me!

I do apologize for not keeping track of your time line.

I didnt get enough info to figure out what you repaired/ fixed/ renewed to get the new result of how the car is now performing.

I am here to learn from others and posting messages with little info on the repair and the results is not adding up, hence the questions..

Thanks for providing more info on what you did to repair the sticking caliper
I am glad you fixed your car, Keep em flying

FWIW, in a say a year or two when someone is searching these threads and comes upon this one,
they may need the info your providing to fix their car,
so adding details is a good thing for everyone
