Default Finnally found the perfect touch up paint

After about 3 years of searching and trying some different colors I found the perfect paint for aged Indischrott G1 027 paint code. It is a 1986 Chrysler color called Rio Red. Code is R04. This color is spot on perfect for both the S4's. I got it in a acrylic enamal mixed in a spray can from the local paint shop. Reducer and hardener are already mixed in. For chips I just spray some on paper and toothpick dip from there. One reason I got the spray can is I plan on doing touch up to the faded rub strips. My plan is to pry just enough space to get waxed paper in between the car and the rub strips. For the prying I purchased a plastic body trim removal kit that works very well. First I will be going over the gap with a very small razor to make sure no paint gets pryed from car. After covering and taping I will use multiple light dusting coats and wet sanding untill I get a good result. I will post some before and after pics this weekend.

If you can, please take some "before, during & after" shots. I think for those of us with the faster red 928's, it would be a great help.

I will take pics. the worst rub strip i have is the one nearest the gas lid. I will start there with my process and see how it goes. I have thought of wrapping the rub strips too but finding the exact match in a wrap would be almost impossible.

If you go to a decent size auto body supply store they can scan your paint
and make a rattle can full of the matching color. Here in the Bay Area
it's about $16 per can. Must be less where you live. You can start tagging with Porsche colors

I've used www.paintscratch.com in the past. If you send them a piece of the car (gas door is the usual piece), they will hand-match the color and provide you with touch-up in either a bottle or a spray can. The match was absolutely perfect and undetectable.

Hello Van, I wish our prices were as cheap as yours, price here was $19. Maybe I just need to move out to SF where the cost of living is cheaper. The thing is we did the color eye and it came up as a Chrysler code but it was not quite right. The color right next to it in the book turned out to be a much better match.

I put on the base coat today on the first rub strip. It was basicallly turning black in a few areas due to the paint getting so thin. I will post beginning and progress pics tonight. Next step is wetsanding with 2000 grit after it dries for a day.

First pic above is with the wax paper tucked in the seams. You should be able to see the blackening I am talking about. Second pic is after the enamal is sprayed. I went over it with about 3 coats. I wanted to make sure I have enough paint to flatten out with the the wetsanding. I am not sure if I going to clear it in the end or not. I will call the paint shop tommorrow and see if they offer a clear coat for this paint. If not I will wetsand and polish to the best result.

Decided to go with clear coat. I purchased a SEM brand in a can which is a proffesional grade clear coat. I am not sure if I got the clear smooth enough but It looks very good. I know periodic waxes and polishing will only make it look better. The end result I would call a 8 out of 10. It would take a very trained eye looking at it from less than 5 ft. to see it has been repainted. The casual observer will likely never notice. The rear passenger side rub strip is only one that I did. I will likely leave the rest alone for now since that was the main problem to start with. Final pics coming this evening.

Nice work, turned out awesome I know I can't tell from the picture. I think with a little sun and a bit if time you shouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I would like Guards red too but this Indichrott is pretty damn nice as well. Thanks for the compliments. I have to say I am pleased with the result. It was a risk and things like this can turn out bad too. The big thing is having the right color. Like I said in the original post, I have been looking for the right color for a long time and this Chrysler color is an absolute spot on perfect match.

Today I tried something I have been thinking about for a while. I know a lot of guys use a tooth pick for touch up. Today I used a fine tip sharpie permanent marker dipped in the touch up paint. For me it works far better than a toothpick. I have rub through on some corners from a previous bad buff job and the marker covers very smooth and flat over the exposed primer. The marker is also a lot easier to control.
