Default Can anyone identify this stone guard setup

My 87 came from Alaska and apparently had this system put on. It has started to pull away in certain areas. I thought it was glued ,but it appears to be bolted the sides. I like the look and would like to replace if possible.

Thanks
Charles

Looks like the lower body moldings were undercoated straight over the paint. You are probably going to have to have them refinished to fix that.

Looking at the middle photo shows it to be a panel with what i agree may be a Rhino or Linex spray. I'm wondering where these once perfect fitting panels came from?

It looks like they're the stock plastic moldings which were either sprayed in place, or removed from the car and sprayed before fitting.

Where its bending away I'd guess is either due to it catching on something (parking lot concrete blocks) or its being pushed by salt corrosion.

I guess they blend in on cars, or I haven't really paid close attention to other 928's
I guess I should remove them and see whats underneath.
Thanks

They are the standard S4 lower body panels, painted with some sort of undercoating or truck bed liner material. I can understand why they might have done this in Alaska, but still find it hard to look at. I hope you can get them refinished with the original paint.

I would imagine they would need to be stripped with some chemical or media blast. Thick stuff.

Be very careful of using a chemical stripper: I suspect that any and all of them will attack the plastic of the original parts.

The body shop that did my recent repaint had some hundred-dollar-plus-per-gallon magic elixir that I was assured would only remove the adhesive strips from the back of my parts and not harm the base plastic.... fortunately their tank was not big enough to hold anything but the rub strips, so they only had to buy new rub strips and not all of the rest of the parts....

Might be worthwhile pricing new or used moldings from 928 International. Considering the fun of stripping and refinishing the coated parts, even buying used ones to repaint would be a relative bargain unless labor is virtually free. IIRC they are attached with foam trim tape.

Thanks fo the source . After looking at the rear , a replacement will probably be needed.
Either that or a respray of Rhino. My avatar shows the car with dressing on the panels and I don't think it looks that bad. maybe respray and re tape the loose bits. If I were to respray the car, then I would look into getting replacements panels.
