79 Battery Clamp Pic
I need a battery clamp for my 79. I have found a bone yard that has one, but he says there is no part number stamped on it. Roger had indicated that the correct one should have part number 911 611 209 00 stamped on it. The fellow at the bone yard is requesting that I send him an image of the clamp so that he can confirm that he is selling me the correct one. Can someone with a correct 79 battery clamp please take a pic and post here? TIA

Hi,
Please double check PET to ensure your '79 uses this same tie down (see attachment).
These guys bought out 928 Worldwide http://www.retroautomotiveproducts.com/About-Us.html
and have a ton of Porsche parts. They found this tie down for me, but by then I had already ordered one from 928 International.

Item Number : U928 611 209 02 Used Battery Hold Down
Unit Price: $30.00

Doug,
I have no idea what the differnce is but the picture above is very similar to waht you need.
The part numbers do not SS.
Best,
Roger

Thanks, Roger. What does SS mean? From the pic above, I'm guessing that the clamp bolts to the bottom of the tray and rests against/puts pressure against the side of the battery. Is that correct. I had thought that it would kind of fit over the bottom lip of the battery like the built-in lip on the other side of the battery tray.

I really should know this for definite as I had battery door open this morning!
I'm pretty sure that the clamp bolts in at rear of battery compartment (bolt at top end), and the lower end of ski slope pushes against the lip at base of battery at -ve end holding it securely in the compartment.
Can remember glancing down at the "ski slope" when i had door open, thinking |"what's that?) for a moment, then remembering how happy I was to find the part for a few $ equivalent on UK ebay years ago!

Wow, that is quite different from the other one. Thanks for taking a pic and posting. Your battery looks like it is taking up most of the battery tray area. My old one was like that. I bought a new one at WalMart and they would only sell me a 41N, which is much smaller in size. According to their book, that is the correct battery for a 79 and they wouldn't warranty anything else. As soon as I get a chance I'll take a pic of it and the location of the screw hole that (I think??) is for the clamp.

Yeah, I know, but the guy showed me in the book and that's what it said. How could the WalMart book be wrong about the battery for a 34-year-old car ?

Here's a pic. Is the place where my ground clamp is bolted to the spot where the battery clamp should be bolted?
Also, are there supposed to be plugs in the holes in the bottom of the battery box?

The ground strap goes here, under the wing nut. I've wondered why such a large battery was used. I think they wanted the weight to inertially damp some chasis oscillations. Maybe they used a smaller output alternator since they had more amp hours in reserve.
