Here it is, the gateway drug. The original source of my addiction !
When I was 7 my dad brought this home brand new. 1978 Brown(don't remember the exact name) 5 speed, no sunroof, champaign all leather interior.
I stumbled upon this picture a few days ago in a photo album. We had the car for 9 years and 109,000 miles. This is the only picture we seem to have of it.
My wife looked at the picture and said "too bad you can't make out the plate number". From across the room I replied without hesitation "ST-5810"
I learned to drive in this car! Unfortunately we got rid of it while I was 16 so it never really became mine. Although, I was the one that washed, waxed and cared for the car from age 7 to 16
It's hard to explain just how different a 928 was compared to everything else on the road at the time. Every sound, every button, EVERYTHING, was an experience that was different than the rest of the automotive world. We take much of that for granted today as everything and every experience has evolved.
When I was in high school I fell in love with the "new" 928S4. It was the newest, sexiest version of the car I had loved for so long at that point already.
So when it finally came time for me to add a 928 to my own collection I had to find the perfect combination. I looked and looked and finally found the right car.
An "Espresso Braun Metallic" S4 with almost the same color interior of my dads original car. Similar enough to have the nostalgic effect, but different enough to be mine!
Now. I'm sure that our old 928 is long dead and parted out at this point. Butt, if I were ever to stumble upon it, I'd probably buy it for the right price

thats an awesome story. my love for the 928 didnt start with such an emotional backdrop. i just recall taking a pic of a silver or gray one back home in PR while in college. i loved the car before that but i hadnt seen one up close. i may still have the negative for that pic somewhere... will look it up to post. perhaps its still alive somewhere. good going. maybe you can use the license plate to figure out where the car is. at some point it was attached to the VIN#.

Likely you can track the car down
I dont think your parents kept the insurance papers/VIN# on record, but you never know being some people will keep records of their sales, worse come to shove you can likely ask the insurance company which it was insured with to obtain the VIN#.

Cole, that was a GREAT story and you have a BEAUTIFUL car of your own there for sure!
Interestingly I was contacted not to long ago by a man named Lane who shared a comparable story with me, but in his case he was older when his dad bought the 928 and it is now MY '94 GTS that they bought new back in '93! He has shared some great memories of the car and info about the car and pics with me. Oh, he is looking for HIS GTS now! Oh, Lane lives in CO too!

^^^ I’ve thought a few times about writing the original owner of the GTS just to let him know it’s alive and well. His name/address is on the inside cover of the warranty manual and looks like he still lives there; and I see he's on LinkedIn. Maybe I will…
I hope you find that '78 someday, Cole.

I'd try to track the car down.......old records your parents have might have the vin.....maybe the shop your dad used to maintain it? The dealer he bought or sold it too?
If you can get the vin you can have a Porsche dealer search for it....if it is still being maintained by a dealer or even recently was you can find it.....carfax won't help since its not the standard VIN....
My story is similar to yours, but it was my dads 1975 280ZX......I was 2.....only car I associated with dad until I was 11..... I also remember the license and it STILL is local.....or at least the smog records say it is
