Default Can anyone help out with this issue

I am working my way thur some "amazing" improvments done on my 1984 Euro. The Alternator needs replacing, so today I removed it. However I have found a strange fix someone did. The green wire that goes to the alternator that came with the car was cut at the very end, then a new green wire was added, with one end going to the Alternator and the other end going to the 14 pin conn( I think thats what its called) Its the one near the 12 volt post. Does anybody know were the factory green wire hooks up to? Maybe the ignition switch? Thanhs for any help. Maybe since it starts fine and hopefully the new Alternator works and chargers I should leave it alone.

The small wire from the alt should go to the 14 pin connector. It is the exciter wire.

Its common for several kinds of failures to affect that group of wires.

Particularly common for the alt exciter wire to be damaged near alterator and replaced with a spliced piece.

Default Thank you

P.S I may have switch the black wire and brown wire that go to the little metal valve with an air hose coming out of each side. This valve is attached ( hangs) from the metal support bar that goes from shock tower to shock tower. Does it matter what sides of the valve the wires go to?

That is an extra air valve for lifting the idle when AC is on - smallish air hoses each side, and 2 wires.

Can you provide some good pictures of what you are working on?

A number of us here have the 928 Euro's, both with and without the twin distributor/LH setup and can help better that way.

The USA LJet cars have their own famous "green wire" leading from a pickup in their distributor to a spark timing computer. Yours doesn't have it.

if your crafty you might do some looking inside the orange sheathing as the blue wire usually breaks about 4 inches inside the sheathing at the alternator this happens when the alternator left dangling from the wires ,

dont hang it from the wires get some mechanics wire and wire it up to hold the alternator up so the wires are not taught.

NOTE dont cut the sheathing just slide it back along the wire
IF OTOH your happy with your new green wire then leave things alone
