Default Int . Wiper question

Looks like my adjustment wheel for the wipers has no effect. They stay at the slow speed, could a relay be at fault or is the rheostat shot ?

You may have the wrong relay installed or have a problem with the rheostat/wiring. In any case don't fix it - its really a crappy system anyway and the stock relay is very expensive to replace.

Get the VW digital delay relay - cheaper - direct plug in - and makes the rheostat redundant anyway and gives you much better control. Do a search for details. Whatever your current problem if your wipers park in the right place and your intermittent mode does anything then The VW relay will solve the problem.

not sure if this is your issue, but mine just had corrosion on it. if you remove the stat (couple screws) it'll hang from the wires out of the bottom of the dash. unhook it, if there is corrosion on the spring, take a soft bristle brass brush, and scrub it off. i did this, and sprayed it with a light coating of WD and it's perfect now. also make sure the tab is actually contacting the spring

Matt it is possible that will help - however it only restores the dubious original mode.

The issues with it are that the delay range is a little limited, you initially get whatever it was last set to, the later horizontally mounted wheel makes it almost impossible to remember which way is which for longer /shorter periods and the adjustment is awkward to reach - yet you need to repeatedly adjust even to get it initially right - let alone to track changing conditions... Not really very good.

The VW is a paragon of simplicity - switch to intermittent you get a default 6 second interval, want shorter - turn it off then back on when the wipe delay you want is reached, want longer - same - turn it off then back on when the wipe delay you want is reached - it will do continuous to about 40 second delay. Stalk is always to hand - no need to even take your hand off the wheel. Perfect.

Good for all years.
