The factory tensioner is outdated technology and really doesn't work all that well. You will be much better off scrapping the entire unit and replacing it with a Porken tensioner. Call Roger for a price. Once done you can forget re-tensioning again.

Tensioner pulley is 928 105 571 04 and we sell for $64.
OEM is Ina - their factory used to be in Germany but now Brazil, even so quality is still excellent.

Do think about a PKensioner and move into the modern age 8>)

The main tensioner roller just buy new from your preferred 928 parts supplier. The whole thing is riveted together.

For the other large idler roller, if the outer surface isn't beaten up or rusty, you can replace the bearing using a press or vise. Its a standard 6905RS bearing on the later cars (86-95).

Default Bearing in pulley

Thanks all for responses. One of reasons I like the oem design is the warning. I think both designs are fine, with porken with less maintenance. But I am a fiddler and for fun wanted to do oem route this time. I may switch at some point to the other tensioner. As I said I am not advocating one over the other. I was just curious if anyone ever changed the inner Ina bearing on the pulley that is indented....and consensus seems no. I have changed the other bearings no problem with correct presses and snap ring pliers.

I have taken one apart 15 years ago and it's not really possible to rebuild it. I made a new one instead, using a much larger standard size bearing and a machined sleeve.

Those that never had their asses saved by the warning system think its not important. One sized water pump will change that.
