Slightly Different Speedometer Problem
Hey Forum,
Today I had a very surprising occurance on my '83. Since I bought it in June 2011, the speedometer had been dead. I have had plans to go through the typical fixes posted for a dead speedo, but just haven't gotten around to it. All other gauges work as expected so I just use the GPS when I feel like I want a speedo. Fixing it hasn't been at the top of the list.
Last weekend I pulled the 928 out of its winter storage and took it out for a nice little warm-up run. All systems worked great, except of course, the dead speedo.
Today, we made a 30 mile jaunt to run Saturday errands with my wife. Our first stop was the bank. I parked, shut down, and went in to take care of business. I was shocked to notice after starting up to leave, the speedo was working! I happened to have the GPS with me and the speedo showed that it was accurate relative to GPS speed. Wow! What's more, the dead odometer and tripmeter were now BOTH working. I registered 9 miles to our next stop. I stopped, got out, did my biz, returned to teh car and started it up and dang, speedo/odo dead again. Two more stops and no speedo again.
Anyone ever experience this? I've had my Porsche mechanic look at the sensor and the speedo wiring and we thought that we were able to confirm proper operation up to the speedo in the dash. But, why would this thing work solidly after 2 years for nearly ten miles until I shut down power.
Any hints at how to resolve this bugger would be appreciated.

try a slight tap on the top of the pod if it starts working then,
that will let you know there is a loose connection at the pod
