I changed one (passenger side) on my car about 5 years ago.
I don't remember what part # it was but... It didn't work when it was pluged normaly. It's a one way connection.
I forced it the other way (reverse connection) and it worked!
Weird but true.

IT WORKS! You are my hero. Like what you had said, I forced it the other way (reverse connection) for the impulse sender connector and it worked!
The sender that it works is 928 637 237 00 so it is not true that 928 637 237 00 is for 92 to 95.
My 928 is a 1991 S4.
