1981 temp sender switch
My 1981 928S has a broken temperature switch 928.605.104.00 located in the heater water outlet pipe at the rear of the RH cylinder head. PET calls it a 'temperature switch' and I believe it is no longer available?
Can anyone tell me what it does? or what its specs are, or is there a replacement option?
Thanks in anticipation.

Has nobody got any ideas on this?

If you haven't yet, try calling the vendors to see if there are used ones available. Or hopefully someone will have an extra that they'd be willing to give up.

That sounds like the temp switch for K-jet warm start enrichment ...is the car K-jet(Same as CIS)?
Symptom I had was hard or no starts very shortly after shutdown - wait 10mins, ok. My switch was ~20ohms when closed, which was enough to stop the solenoid firing. it should provide a slight enrichment to aid starting. I found several US suppliers, but they wanted twice the price in postage to Oz. In the end I found a 944 unit - which has an M10x1 thread, where the original is M14x1.5. I made an adapter and got it fitted.
The temp gauge sender is up on the front water bridge, 2 small connectors.
928 Specialists list the part at $39, Jim Eliis Porsche at $42, others as NLA. Be sure thats the right number....I forget what my number was

Pretty sure it is NLA. What does it say on the body? any other numbers or details.
Looks like it was only on ROW cars for some reason. I have an 80 ROW S and will have alook tomorrow.

I replaced my failed 928.605.104.00 with a 924.047.131.851D - just need to make an adaptor from M14x1.5 (wheel stud size) to M10x1 thread.

the car is an Australian delivered 1981 928. Now a 928S, having bored it and changed all the top end.
So it is a K-Jetronic injection system.

One wire goes straight to earth, the other wire back into the loom.

If you hunt around, you should be able to find one cheaper than the $58 on the 924 web site. IIRC I got one for E19. M14x1.5 is actually quite a common size - I think I found something brass in this thread, cut it off, drilled and tapped it M10x1 (not very common), good to go.
Have you verified that your sensor doesnt close to give zero ohms ?

I've fitted it Roger, JP by machining out the original, then drilling and tapping its guts to take the new one.
If you look in WSM 1A, on page 12b, it details testing this. It's a 'hot start' system to lower control pressure for hot starting.
Thanks guys.
