I would think you could acid dip the entire car. This was done with some of the TransAm cars as I recall.

How much does an acid dip and a re-galvanize cost anyway?

I remember hearing about acid dipping from my Dad back in the days. In some cases, sheet metal was so thin after the treatment, you couldn't even lean on it without putting a dent in the body.

Yea, I think only chassis really worth doing the whole shebang.

But the danger of acid dipping makes you think if it is really worth it.

With the bore spacing at about 12 miles, just think how many litres the factory could have stuffed into that effort.

Such a shame that the desire wasn't there.

Yes very true, 928 has drawbacks for racing in weight and maybe a little motor oiling issues that you guys have figured out by yourselves.
Ferrari campaigned the even heavier (3600lbs) and w/o good brakes Daytona to a pedigree. We have read about how hard to handle they were "Queen Mary"

Same old 911 story line, very annoying.

Nice thing is more and more car guys are finally figuring out what a great track car they make.

The newest GT Porsche Magazine(((used to be GT Purely Porsche, and is really a dedicated 911 magazine))) issue on shelves says just that.

They tested a 1987 S4 automatic and became believers like i did.

Mine 3160 without me in the car. I wish it was that light with me in it. Rear bumperettes or buffers are gone at 3160.

Do a lot of 928 owners lighten? Very commonplace with 911 people.

I plan to remove the heavy Flag mirrors for the Baby Turbos used on
The Lightweight. I looked closely at the photos it looks to be them.
The base is about the same size and the price is more than right.

Never buying Aero mirrors again, way too expensive.

RS type door panel would be nice, thinking of removing the lower panel with ducting and mirror switch/courtesy light and finishing it nicely to shed some weight. Anybody do this? Add a nylon loop-strap to pull the door closed. I never use the side panel storage anyway.
Could also remove the glove box door but they seem pretty light, 911 GBDs are very heavy(metal lined)

I was surprised when painting how light the doors are without the interior panels. Hood is beautifully light as well.
911 hoods are deceptively very heavy.

Have a great night Rennlisters

The old very brown 1980 weighs 3050 with the rollbar near full interior and with out me in it no sunroof, A/C fell off, MSDS headers, no cat , "race" seats, mini alternator . The s front brakes and 8x16 S-4 rims all help hold down the weight .....
