I'm in the process of buying a weekend racer 924S. It needs a new dash and since the car is so cheap - adding a new dash is not practical. They have dash caps like they offer on the 928 which is my likely route. In thinking about it I got the idea about applying flocking to dress up the PVC cap to look more like Alacantra. As it happens, seems that is already being offered in the automotive world.
So just a idea for our 928 pods (or other bits), which I also thought might look nice in Alacantra. Check this out;

Don't waste your money on a dash cap, IME. Mine turned to all sorts of warps within 2 hours out in the sunlight, and it was not even that hot of a day.....there are all sorts of other folks who have tried them too referenced in other threads...doesn't matter if it a 928 or a 924. SOrt of like lighting your grill with a $100 bill....not to mention a fair amount of work to carefully follow the instructions (remove the dash, clean, glue clamp, reinstall the dash, then watch it warp)......
We even developed multi-color application as per sample picture however the majorty of the applications are one color for the packaging industry like jewelery boxes, automotive sliding roofs panels, glove boxes, inside of ac ducts to reduce the airflow noise etc. imitation suede etc.
The fibres can last forever the durabilty is dependent on the quality of the adhesive used to bond them to the substrate they are applied to.
I found a link to a whole bunch of vendors online all over the US. The closest to me is MA. I can't vouch for how good each vendor is. Link here. I'll make some calls during the week and update here.

That would be one of my concerns, durability, plus fade and uniformity. But reading that first website and looking at their gallery is tempting. It is very similar to stuff called Mohair used in the early Dino Ferraris and of course Alcantara.
If I was sure the final product would look 1st rate I would do the dash and pod in black.
I really like the look of that. I've thought of a finish kind of like that for my little 190...was originally thinking synthetic suede or something like that.
How would something like that be cleaned, because I am sure that dust and such will place itself nicely in between the fibers...
I've researched flocking for a long time but have never tried it. Thought it would be great for my 951. Just wish I knew how well the cheapy DIY kit works compared to the whole electrostatic install.
Want an example of flocking? Go look at the package trays and inside of your factory glove box. Those are flocked.
