Default 911 vs 928 leather seats

Went to friends house to watch the Super Bowl, and during the half I was looking at his 86, 911 Carrera. His driver's seat looks almost new, and he's got over 215K on the car. Original interior too.

How is it that the seats in our 928's wear out in the bolster area, and the seats in a 911 don't? My car has only 89K and change, and the driver seat is wasted. His 911 is a convertable, would that make a difference? His seats look the same as what's in my shark except for the color.

Likely the fact that 928 buyers are "bigger" than the usual Porsche 911 suspects?

Since it is a convertible maybe he gets into it over the top of the door and does not drag his a$$ over the bolster like so many 928 guys.

Wait, the bolsters in my 911 show wear and I have only 70 on the clock. Sure you weren't hitting the sauce a little too hard there Chief? Sure the car wasn't a 72 Ford Fiesta? Just saying.

Were the 911 seats vinyl or leather?

If you get in butt first then spin, no bolster wear. If you get in right foot first you push your butt across the bolster area as you slide in. I've had girls ask why I get in butt first like and old man. I tell them it is to keep from wearing the seat bolsters.

Congratulate you friend on not dropping his butt onto the bolster.

The seats themselves are the same and are interchangeable.

He always has the top down. Maybe just steps in and drops into the seat. I don't drink if I have to drive, to much to loose!

Is the door opening on 911 any bigger top to bottom than the 928?

I'd say that your friend did't tell you everything... Like they were redone sometimes in the past.
I think that the 928 and 911 seats are the same.
And 215K without any (important) wear marks???

I don't know about bigger top to bottom, but the door is shorter front to back on the 911 which will allow it to open much closer to 90 degress before striking the neighboring obstacle (car, garage wall...) which should make it much easier to get out of without dragging yourself across the bolster.

Some good points made about door opening and procedure for getting in, I would add that the 928 seat is lower (15 mm? in 85/86 euro's) with a wider sill to cross also. The seats in the 928 are the best, much nicer than any 911 seat I have sat in especially with those pleats.

Condition is a one by one luck of the draw deal because mine have 0 wear, lots of color fade but 0 wear, pics if necessary.

Glen,
Actually, 911 and 928 seats are different at least in the USA. The 928 have seat cushions that are raised individually where 911 seats' cushions are flat.
