Default key cutting frustration

i bought a blank long key about a year ago with the intention of having it cut at a local locksmith. My 85 only came with one long key, and the short red key.
Every locksmith I have brought it to says they can not cut the key.
I was considering mailing it to the company in England who cut with a scan, but the postage was stupid!
Does anyone know a locksmith in the Long Island NY area that can cut a 85 928 key?
Is there something specific to ask them if you call on the phone?

928 International cuts keys the the exact shape of your original key and they do a great job. You will probably have to send them your original key to duplicate, but with the weather as cold as it is a lot of places, being without your 928 for a few days should not be a problem.

We only have one locksmith here in OKC that will cut a 928 Key. They say it's because it is steel and will ruin the wheel on a key cutter unless made for it.

I've ordered 2 ignition/main keys (at different times) from Porsche of Colorado Springs and each was perfect. If you call their parts department they'll walk you through the ordering process. IIRC- they cost about $100 each. One time they threw in a free lighted key head and another time a free t-shirt & hat. Really nice guy running the parts department. It's too bad you already have the key blank- but maybe you can save it future use or sell it to someone else.

Tony Euganeo in PA is excellent. As long as you can do without your key for 4-5 days. Great service and price.

+1 keys4classics - a couple of pics of the original - ordered a long and a red short, both work well.

Gutter - where in Parker are you, roughly? Not trying to pry but that's my HQ as well.

They are in West Hartford

No locksmith I've ever talked to wants to use a key I provide, so step one, buying that blank was money down the drain. Unless you find somebody that is willing to use a blank you provide, don't buy any blanks.

I haven't heard anything negative about either of the places that cut from pictures, one is I think in the UK, and the other is keysforclassics in I think Australia. Take good pictures of all your keys, good light, good angle, and never post a picture of your key.

The rear quarter windows are the cheapest to replace if you have to break one.
