That said this looks really nice... even if it is a bit more than I want to start with.

Looks nice, non-sunroof too. Rear wheels are mounted on the wrong sides, directional tires tell-all. If the tire direction was overlooked, wonder how it is mechanically. Timing belt, etc.

This car does look nice, but upon closer look at the dash, it appears to have a plastic cap on the dash, pod and center console.

At 5'8" I don't have a problem with the sunroof. Others who are more lanky have/have not said they do/don't like the sunroof.

With regard to the pre-'87 car, wouldn't you prefer and '87+ car? The 4 valve engine is not delicate and, in my humble opinion, the car body is far prettier.

In Canada I don't think any other option presents as good of a value as 928 from Japan, and hands down that would be my first choice and suggestion. If your dead set on paying less up front and more long term, and ending up with less, then fishing in the rich waters of the mid Atlantic states frequently turns up some cheap 928's.

??? What is the Canada - Japan connection? Easier to import and register? Wouldn't a Japanese 928 be right hand drive?

Metric speedo, cheaper pricing for the value. Most I have seen are LHD. Other than that ,I don't know....

Found this locally, '78 euro manual - 5.5 L ???!!! Seems to me that 8500$ is way high. Or are '78 euros worth that much more...

Also talked to this guy, he says the car was garaged a long time so really has low miles, the interior was vandalised, but it ran a year and a half ago. He bought it as a parts car. He is very flexible on the price. He also has a running 5 speed so I am going to have a look this week.

I seems to me that buying a car locally is worth 500$ to 1000$ in saved shipping or driving costs. When I was looking at Andre Hedrick's car in CA a quick calculation gave me at least 500$ in gas for the trip plus food and sleeping accommodations, which is about the cost of shipping that I saw.

Don't underestimate the value of personally inspecting a vehicle before the purchase.

Last week I looked at my first 928, a '82 5-speed, all original, the paint is decent with some places that have to be touched up, leather interior in decent shape, no holes or rips, 90,000 Km with timing belt done within the last 3 years. Runs nicely. I just had a quick look and it was not possible to do a road test (it is squeezed in the corner of a storage shed with another 928 and a Fiero, the storage shed is in a dirt yard that is mud at the moment since a mild spell has melted the foot or two of snow that we had.) If my buddy and I decide that we are interested we will go back for a detailed inspection, verify the service records and take a test drive.
The owner is asking 6000$ which is way high I think, maybe 4000$ would be realistic from what I am seeing available.
The same guy also has a '82 parts car that supposedly has less than 70000Km but the interior was vandalised, broken windshield and lots of scratches and other flaws on the exterior. He was asking 2500$ (!!!!) but would sell for a lot less... but it is too much of a project for me and it is an automatic.

After all the suggestions I have seen here and on the Canada Region forum I am starting to get an idea of what I am looking for...
- it has to be a 5-speed... well unless a real deal comes up.
- preferable a 16 valve.
So I am looking more and more for a '83 - '84 (for the 4.7L) 5-speed. Budget still around 5000$ short term.
If a really sweet deal should come up either older or newer I could be tempted.

Andre Hedrick's car is still on my mind... perhaps if it is still available in the spring...
