direction for exhaust gaskets MY 86

I know I've seen the answer to this but I couldn't find the posting again. which direction does the flat side of the ring go to. Finally time to install the headers. Or at least try.

When I did it, I put the seam towards the head.

edit: oops.. I was writing about the wrong gaskets. I thought you meant the stainless one between the cats/manifolds.
