Jim,
I had no idea,

When you really love what you do it's not like work.

I also was a product designer, did some car products too for myself and can say be very, very careful to protect you ideas, a handful of mine are all over Catalogs from the late 90s on, haven't seen a dime on most of them.
Griot's and Performance i have a particular problem with, but can't go there.

A TV commercial was made for my Porsche side panel protector the MAGDOORBUMPER and the marketing company i hired was screwing me on the side also, with patents.. I lost $30,000 on that one. I Uploaded the Magdoorbumper tv commercial to YouTube. That's me and my Carrera both a lot younger..

Be careful out there, and the best of luck with it.

Matt,
I appreciate the advice. I work with IP everyday, to some extent. Just got another patent last week.

I'm not terribly concerned about 928 product related IP at this point, for two reasons:
1. If someone else can make a similar product at a similar price, I'd give them my best wishes. It serves the better good of the community. Heck, maybe I'd be their customer too!
PD in the boutique 928 is not for the faint of heart. As I'm sure you can relate to, it take a special person with the know-how, commitment, and funds to enter a low-volume, low-margin market.

2. IP protection is expensive, and out of my range.

928 Classics hopes to offer many products in the future. The potential product list is a mile long!
When the 928 receives the classic status it deserves, the market need for restoration products will grow. I hope to be on the front side of that shift.

Thanks again everyone, for the support and referrals. It's opened up many doors of opportunity... and at the very least, I've met more some interesting people along the way.

Jim
I am sure you'll have better luck with it than I did.
The way i look at life has always been what my Grandmother always said "everything happens for a reason"
I just do cars and trucks as a hobby again. Have all these product ideas but the experience left a bad taste..
PMed you back but was bumped out of log, not sure whether you got it, but would like to talk to you too in the future.

Re IP, a friend who's in his 60s (nicest person you'd ever meet) also from Va and an Engineer, designed and manufactured a better lightweight composite handcuff than the current heavy metal Smith & Wesson.
Had all his Patents in order and his own Investors out Lawyer'd him, pushing him out entirely on his own concept and product..
What a world we live in.

Jim, you're on the sharp end of the early 928 (OB) uptick that we all think is coming soon. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Matt,
I did get your PM and thanks for that. Looking forward to talking with you soon.
I'm a much better talker (and listener) than typist (or reader).

Jim,

Someday we're all going to be able to say, 'We knew ya back when....'

I missed this thread back in January too. I think your passion combined with your experience are a great combination and agree that the timing is right for this to happen.

Good luck with the endeavor!!!

Jim,

I am glad you got it,

I will work on a concept rendering of my OUTLAW 928 for your review.

Haven't rendered by hand in 20 years should be fun!

I have a good ID friend very into manufacturing plastics, (overseas though)
he is very trustworthy and super bright.

Default Website revamp and updates

Just wanted to check back in with ya'll as there has been quite a few significant changes since my last post.

Biggest news is I'm into 928 Classics full-time now! About 3 months ago, I left my 18 year career with intent to give this restoration business every thing I got.
I have the absolute pleasure to give my entrepreneurial spirit to the 928, everyday! How cool is that?

Another major update is my website, 928 Classics is now ready for primetime.
Products geared toward restoration are now being offered. Also, Nicole at HookedonCars has given me the great opportunity to sell her uber-cool clear and smoked lenses!

Please take an opportunity to check out http://928classics.com. If you like what you see, please support my up-and-coming business... and share it along with your 928 friends!

Also, keep checking back as the website will be actively updated - with new products, more tech resources, and a comprehensive restoration page.

Last but not least, if you are looking for early 928 restoration services, send me an email or give me a shout. I would love to talk to you about your 928!

Thanks everyone for your continued support!
