Default 14 Pin Connector

This is what I found when I was removing an ancient radar detector. I will be having to splice into this connector because I see at least 2 wires that surely cannot conduct any current. I guess remove and replace the sections where there is no insulation. I have not opened this thing up. Are the pins something that I can re-use? If not...can you buy just the pins? Or is it the whole thing? Can you buy just the male or female side if that's what you need? THANKS!

In my limited experience, the corrosion and the melting doesn't stop at the point where the outer sleeve hides it. I recommend that you remove the harness completely from the car and lay it out where you can inspect and repair all the sections that have damage. On many cars, the insulation is brittle and even crispy, and the copper inside is corroded to the point where replacement is the only reasonable option. There have been several threads discussing repair and replace options. The connectors are available, better more modern wire is available, and all the sleeve and shrink pieces are available.

Knowing what we do about old car wiring in general, 928 electrical issues and gremlins in particular, making a new harness would be at the top of my options list. It's an opportunity.

I can get the pins separatley but to be honest the plastic is probably brittle as well.
I replace both male and female at the same time.

No. I don't thing any of the connections in the 14-pin have anything to do with LH/EZK on any 928. List includes alternator/power feed, oil pressure sender and switch, AC clutch wire, stuff like that. The 'smart' stuff on later cars like EFI, knock sensors, temp senders and the like are in a different harness that doesn't have a separate engine-bay connector. The front-of-engine harness has that 14-pin connector so you can get it out of the way for timing belt access I'll guess.

Plus, OP's '82 doesn't have that kind of smart boxes.

Like Dr. Bob says, those wires may not solder well to the terminals.
Consider replacing the wires to the engine sensors.
Can be done with a DIY harness, always better with TX metric wire and new connectors, but can also be made up with parts store stuff.

Landseer,
Could you tell me what type of wire you prefer? (Type TX is paired wire?)

Roger,
What are the p/n's for the connectors and terminals?

Thanks!

I meant TXL from eagleday, but you know cheapo me, I'll just harvest wires from a 944 or 928 spare harness

Jim, the 944 PET has a lot of connectors in it.
