You just maybe right about the switch cause when my mechanic was having trouble tightening those two screws (pod was not removed) and the car started fine for a while and then the symptoms return, i suspect the screws are now completely loosen and its not contacting the start??
I will check on that and report back if i can somehow tighten those 2 little damn screws.

Ah, yes, that is very possible. I don't know why on earth your mechanic would even attempt swapping out the switch with the pod in place. Maybe he/she just likes a challenge. You might just consider Colin,.in the future, for maintenance.

ok i just went and check the switch and its TIGHT so i now think the male piece of the lock that goes into the switch is worn??? would that make sense?? This is the old one that came off in May this year.

You do need a 90 degree Phillips head screwdriver to accomplish the task.

Never thought to do it that way, but I may give it a whirl next time though I don't think there is much, if any, time advantage to leave the pod. Actually, I'll just pray there isn't a next time. Thanks for sharing, Randy. I always like to hear of different approaches toward these repair procedures.

ok i just read somewhere that you can start the car if the ignition switch is bad by jumping the starter relay xiv 30 to 87?? If true i don't have to have it towed to my mechanic, if someone had done it, can you post a picture on how to?? Thanks

You (along with every other 928 owner) should have a relay jumper switch in
the glove box.
Pull relay XIV (or the jumper that is there), plug the jumper switch
between terminals 30 and 87. Turn the ignition switch on, get the car ready
to crank (in neutral) and use the switch on the jumper to activate the starter.

Barry, Wally's tip will work if the switch is still good enough to at least allow you to switch it to the ON/RUN position.
Simple question: I think you had stated earlier that your cluster lights still come on when the key is turned on, so Wally's tip should work for you if your ignition switch has actually failed. Now, what happens with the dash lights when you turn to START? Are the cluster lights still illuminated, or no?

so if this method works, does it mean that my tumbler (lock) is no good or the electrical piece (new) is no good? Do i put in the jump wire in term. 30 and 87 first then turn the key all the way to start? Do i need to pull the jump wire out once it starts? I f still no starts then it maybe the starter? Sorry no many questions, i just want to do things right!
Turn the car to the RUN position first; not START. Remove relay XIV and insert the jumper wire across 30 & 87. There would be less risk of grinding the starter with a jumper relay with a switch, by the way. Just be quick about removing the jumper wire.
You can verify the function of the tumbler to rule it out, but I'd say there are better than 99% odds that the actual switch is your issue.

Now when you said be quick about removing the jumper wire???? means start the car with my left hand and pull the wire with my right hand as soon as it starts.....that quick??
