Default horn contact in steering wheel hub - failure

A while ago i noticed I had no horns, and after going through fuses and relays, and the horn push on the wheel, I found the brass shim thing was not making contact with the wheel hub. I corrected it by bending the brass part, got it working, buttoned it up.
Now a month later, its gone again....Anybody seen this sort of thing please? It worked for years before the first failure, and I dont recall doing anything in that area...since I had the pod out last year. Only possible difference is the wheel and hub are leather covered..
I might start again with the fuses and relays in case the cause is different this time.
tks

Common failure....the copper L wears out especially if the upper bearing is bad and the wheel drops down and rubs too hard on the contact...

Last time I fixed it (4-6 weeks, little use since then) the copper strip was intact. I bent its end inwards towards the centre to make contact with the rub ring.
Due to the leather on the boss rubbing on the column, I actually put a spacer on the shaft to lift the hub up ~1/16"
