I had problems until I thoroughly cleaned and lubed that up&down slider until it was butter smooth.

Now my wiper always works...never slips out of the track.

...this thread reminds me of a project as well. More on that later. (weeks)

I would suggest getting your new latch receiver installed and the latch working correctly and then see what the wiper does.

I thought I'd throw my 0.02c in while we're on the topic.

My '88 S4 has an issue where the hatch doesn't enter the receiver perfectly smoothly. My mechanic (Bruce Buchanan) has supposed that my car was hit in the past and the rear section is slightly warped; enough to not make the latch enter the receiver pefectly. One of the other symptoms is that the rear wiper registration stud is worn on one side, more than the other which shows its been grinding on entry to the rear wiper motor bracket.

I'm saying this because I notice the OP has the GTS rear PU bumper which can indicate a rear-ender; and maybe has a similar issue as I do.

I have a new liner plus some lube and we (Bruce and I) lifted the rear hatch ~2mm higher via sliding the hatch at it's hinge at the roof point. Now it closes more easily...
