Default HVAC question...

I did some searching, and came up with a lot of info, but not specifically what I am looking for.

As many here know, my 84 Euro has the interior pretty much out right now. I put the center dash console back in, but not permanently. The HVAC controller and lock/ warning system are hooked up.

from time to time the blower motor will run when I turn it on and the ***** are in certain positions. I am not certain as to whether it is operating per design. I am pretty sure in fact that it isnt.

Anyway, Wally advised me to change out all the vaccuum related servos or what have you that are HVAC related and behind the console. I am wondering which ones should be replaced, and what they do precisely. Again, I have a general idea, and am more looking for a clearly defined locations and functionality. Pics would be hella nice also if possible. Since my car had no interior what so ever when I got it, I have been using the search function and asking questions to piece it back together.

Since heat / defrost is nice in the winter, I would like to get on it asap. I have foiund on ebay a bunch of different heater valves and such (like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IMC-653-5400...7d902b&vxp=mtr)

thanks.

Yes - just replace ALL of them - its easy now and cheap - once its all back together any that aren't leaking now will start to leak.. they are old dried out rubber...

Don't screw with used stuff on eBAY - it's also old dried out rubber.

If your actuators look OK and move OK...? JUST BUY THE DIAPHRAGMS FROM ROGER (ROG100),

Do however get a NEW heater valve (whole thing) from Roger also. A cheap aftermarket version could dump all your coolant while driving fast - not worth any savings.

You can find a manual online and see how the HVAC head controls are supposed to work - don't bother testing operation of anything functionally until after you update all the diaphragms. Do buy a Mity Vac (<$40) and test the actuator operations & solenoid bank for leaks.

Note that the default positions of the water valve and the defroster vent are open with no vacuum. Others are closed/fresh with no vacuum.

Second Alans post... replace all diaphrams from roger.

If I can in a later date, there is specific vw's readily available in scrap yards that have same actuators...cheaper and can test in the scrap yard.

Wally also has an excellent write up on the HVAC system diagnoises.

I have the center and footwell diaphragms for $56.95 each. Not cheap because I rob them from another famous German car actuator but cheaper than buying from Porsche.
The defrost actuator is $46 and the recirc actuator is $28.
The heater valve is $22.75 and I recomend changing the valve to block hose at the same time.

ok...so roughly 200 for everything I need? plus the hose you suggested... do you have a price on that? This way I can just buy everything I need and be done with it. I haven't checked the write ups above yet (thanks by the way), hopefully there is one on there to show me how and where to install all of these things.

Hopefully I can get the hvac system working in this car (euro). it has an "aftermarket" wire going from the ac fan to the ac pressure switch. So obviously something "Porsche" went wrong and got replaced with economy. The blower turned on the other day but only went on occaisionally, or maybe it was temp sensitive I dont know. But I know that the motor works... everything as far as ac controller is hooked up. Truthfully, the servos and such look pretty good, but for 225 or whatever, would rather have the opeace of mind associated with new ones. Maybe first I should get gas coming out of the pump though.

good write up from dwaynesgarage. I am wondering if maybe I should see if if the system operates with motor running before I start replacing. no?
