Paint time!
I am dropping my 78' off to get painted today. Plan is to remove all body panels, peice painted, and reassembled. I am leaving it factory silver. While its in for paint I can get the interior refurbished some. Going to be a busy winter. Here are before shots.

Are you letting the shop do all the disassembly and reassembly?
Where are the paint lines going to be?
If you don't mind how much is the cost for all the work?
How long will it take?

If your going to make any changes, now's the time. re: delete side marker lights, rear bumperttes, rear winshield wiper, front headlight squirters, add "S" style front bumper cover (with air slots) if going with larger brakes down the road, swap out to aero mirrors. Looking forward to pic when it's done. T

going to do base coat/clear coat. The gentleman doing the work is retired and takes on projects he would like to work on, I'll be helping as much as I can. There should be no paint lines as the jams and all will be done. Time will be as long as needed.
77Tony- I agree, any changes will need to be made now. I will be leaving it original, filling the holes for the spoiler I removed. I'll add pics as we go.

GLAD to hear your leaving it stock. 78 models are getting hard to find in that state.
On filling the spoiler holes. I would suggest taking the fenders to someone that can weld aluminum and have them welded closed...then grind and use filler. Otherwise the filler alone may not last...or will be visable in a year.
I bet the passenger mirrow was added later as well. Are there controles for it inside? I could understand keeping it for safty but I am removing the one off my brothers to make it as it came from the factory.
The silver will look GREAT!
Looking forward to seeing updates.
Are you looking for the phone dial wheels that came on the car to replace the later ones you have now? That would look really nice IMHO. But then I just think the early cars without spoilers look sooo clean. Hard to improve.

I think the mirror is stock as the passenger side works off the switch on the drivers door panel. 77tony had a nice set that I wasn't able to get at the time. I'll see once its painted. This is a pic of the car that inspired me to go and get it painted. I talked to the fellow that owns this Jag at the Grand Rapids Metrocruise this year. Very nice ride. Also loved the clean lines that I also decided against any spoilers, etc.

Can't wait to see after pics. Also, take as many "during" pics as you can.

OK cool another paint restoration thread,
your gonna have fun with this and the car should look great when your done,
what paint are you going to use?
Get new bumper beading Roger has it.
Also new front and possibly rear bumper shocks, 928 INTL has em used for half price till 12-24,
NOTE your front bumper looks pushed in. and the shocks are one time use

Great to see someone else out there as crazy as me. Good luck and kudos on keeping it stock. Be prepared to start saving-up for some pascha from Bob Budd, like me. And get yourself some phone dials!
