Default Rear Hatch Drain Holes

I have a 1982 and I see two small drain holes in the channels for the rear hatch glass. They are about 3-4" up the rear window from the base and one on each side. They are not plugged and drain directly into the interior of the rear cargo area. I am surprised that they don't drain outside the rubber seal. Are these supposed to be there? Should they have plugs of some kind? why wouldn't they have added drain holes at the bottom of the glass somehow that drained to the outside of the rubber seal? This is my first 928 and I have no idea what is correct and what is not. I just added another post asking if this rear hatch with third brake light is definitely from my 1982 due to it being spliced into the brake light wiring.

Interior of the hatch the two holes are for the luggage cover. They should not be open to the exterior of the car. Double check what you are looking at.

I am pulling my hair out because i cannot post pics. I use a photo bucket account on other forums with no issues. Won't work here. I swear I will update this thread when I can post a pic.

Photobucket will work just fine here. Get the "direct url" from photobucket and paste it into the pop up window you see when you click the little mountain/landscape icon when typing a post.

Jay: I did. Doesn't work. I am having issues with this forum for some reason and I really would like to talk to an administrator live to discuss. Alas...I cannot.

Bummer. Well if you have a facebook page that is public you could post a URL to the picture maybe.

Where are these "drain holes" anyway? I have 2 drain holes up high in the hatch channel but they come from the sunroof area and don't go inside the car. I don't see anything that penetrates the body.

3rd brake light didn't come about in US until '86.

So have you actually seen water get into the interior or you just seeing the holes?

What you describe really sounds exactly like the 2 drain holes coming from the sunroof area. Water runs from around the sunroof down to those holes, then the water follows the hatch channel to the bottom and runs out over the bumper.

Default Figured out pic posting finally

She here is a pic from underside of open hatch. car was filthy inside in back area on rear deck. Really dirty and then I found these holes. One on each side. Not sure what they are for. They don't seem to be a mounting hole for glass or trim attachment point.

Could that be a spoiler mounting hole?

I don't know. I am beginning to suspect that the rear hatch is not original. I have another post about a third brake light and what year those started. I asked because it's spliced into the rear brake light harness down near rear wiper motor and grounded to that motor. Maybe it was for a spoiler? The other screw there goes up into one of those attachment points for the trim around the rear window. maybe the car is just missing one of those trim pieces right there. Who knows. I am going to have to figure out how to plug it. Maybe with more of those clips for the trim. Are those readily available?

Yes, that is where the wing attaches so I believe you are correct.
