I'm no expert here, but I think the Euro you have is probably a bit past saving unless it would be your only project. As it sits, I think you'd be looking at $750 max. You'd probably get more out of it by parting it and selling the good stuff off to save other 928's. Parting it may get you a little more than $1500 out of it. Again, I'm not one of the more knowledgable guys on here, just my $.02 while trying not to bash you or the car.

It could be saved, but I would think that will take more effort, money, and time than it would be worth. Again, just my opinion. For what it's worth, I paid $3200 for my '83 Euro that was running and driving when I bought it. I put wheels and tires on it and drove it every day for 7 months before having to start addressing the issues. If you could save it, bring her back to life, and drive it for a week, you'll not want a US 928 unless it's an S4.

Good luck.

My suggestion is the same as several have already made - don't restore now. Get it running and driveable, and see what the car needs. Then decide whether to sell, restore, or make it a Daily Driver.

thanks Wally. sounds like good advice. I will get it running next weekend. I have someone coming over to do it. I have seen many a car stripped bare on the inside, filled, painted and redone, and then sold for a profit. Maybe the 928 market is different. I am not talking about bringing it back with all of its little porsche 1984 goodies. other than the hvac, many of those systems arent worth fixing i think. The head light aiming function? I have no intention of restoring a bunch of out dated tech with over priced porsche parts. that isnt my idea of saving it.
I will get it running good, and then see whats up. sounds like good advice to me.

Only fix it if you plan on driving it.
If you plan on fixing to be able to sell and make profit, you will likely fall flat on your face!

Not looking to be flamed here, but that car is definitely worth more in parts and in the condition it is in, nobody here that knows about these cars will purchase to restore. If it sells to a non 928 person that wishes to "restore" it, we all know that it will continue to get beat on and eventually end up in a field somewhere.

IMO, go ahead and part it to help save other Euro S cars and also help some here with their hybrid motors. If you can verify that the heads, cams and intake runners and throttle body are all correct, they are worth @$1500 separately. If you headlights are H4, they are worth $250+ in good condition. If your brakes still have the ABS sensors in them, then they are highly desirable. The LH brain and the MAF have good value. From the pics, it appears that some of the interior bits are still nice and then the HVAC control unit and all the interior smaller bits and pieces are worth something. That car has at least $3000 in parts and even more if you want to spend more time on it and get into it.

Mine is in better shape, for the most part...granted not a Euro...and I gave $650 for it...some would say I paid too much, but non-runners are in that price range...

There is not a lot of net value in that car, and generally any effort or money you put into will be down the toilet. The motor is NOT the issue, its about the only item of value in it, the rest of the car is junk with some parts left to scavenge.

Starting the motor "may" be a good idea, but Euro S motors are rarely sold complete due to shipping costs and little interest in the short blocks. I tried selling my last Euro S short block for $100 and ended up giving it way, and the person I gave it to still lost money on it. What sells is what can be shipped reasonably, and that is the heads, cams, and intake, worth maybe $1000 if they have no issues.

The Euro S AT is worth saving, but may take a LONG time to sell for more than $200, and it would be good to keep all the related parts like the torque tube and linkage with it. The rest are parts or spares, fuel tank, hood, fenders, radiator, wheels, injection and spark brains, seats, all are "maybe" $100 items.

Painting a 928 does NOT work unless you have a big budget. Factory paint is excellent, and straight original paint 928's can be found with a little patience for about 1/4 the cost of a decent respray. Cheaper respray's on a 928 simply do not fly in the 928 community, and barely work on long term used car lots selling to the ignorant.

Some folks should investigate the concept of 'comparable neglect' in regards to what you CAN'T see.
