Default Intensive Washer ? - 87 S4

Howdy. Thanks for the help as always.....

Just making sure things work today before a wash and wax and I tried the washers.... haven't had them on in years.

Everything works, but the intensive washer won't stop unless I turn the key off.

I assume this is a relay problem? These relays are stupid expensive and I'm certainly not going to replace it but is there anything I can do to maybe revive this relay or troubleshoot this somehow? Rubber mallet maybe?

Seems like it is supposed to run a few seconds then stop but it's been years since I hit the button.

Very important stuff going on here you can see

how are you triggering the intensive washer? ,
might the button be stuck?
you might pull one of the wires off the button,
its under the pod on the right side of the steering wheel column
a round button

Well I thought it might be the button but if I turn the ignition off and back on it clears up. I would think if the button was stuck it would come back on again. I'll try that anyway though, just to eliminate everything in the loop. Thanks.

And I'm using the button to trigger it, is there another way?

Nothing really, I haven't had the fuse and electric panel open in years. This is the first time I have hit the washer button in about the same amount of time. I just happened to think to check today before washing the car.

That relay has the timer mechanism in it I believe and I'm assuming that is stuck somehow. May pull that relay out and clean the contacts here in a bit.

try cycling the various systems once a month ,
most never use the intensive washers and rear defrosters, nor headlight washers

I think that's simply all it is, lack of use. I'll run the hose from the pump into a bucket and cycle it a bunch, see what turns loose sometime.

Thanks!
