Default 4.7L Euro S LH dyno....WOW!!!!

Took Seans #52 racer with a true Euro S LH engine......BUT only a standard L jet intake-injection.... Common 928 theory says that this highly underrated engine will be severely choked down by the AFM, smaller intake and TB....

Sean has a Euro S LH intake ready to install, but it needs a pricey MAF conversion....so I said why not test it as is....when we ran together last time it didn't seem down on power.... So off to the dyno I went....

While warming up Seans car around the paddock (NASA teen car control clinic) I noticed a Cessena taking turn 1 at about a 45' angle at maybe 150mph.....I thought that was odd....While we were getting the car on the dyno Speedtoys showed up....he was flying the Cessena....flew up to say hi!!!!

So we put it up on the dyno....tried a few runs in 3rd gear.....it spun up the dyno stupid fast and didn't make much power....5th gear was better...but everything was VERY lean.....scary lean....so we started adjusting the L jet AFM to add fuel.....after several more runs and settling on 4th gear....we get everything sorted.....

276whp-298torque

DAMN.......makes my lowly 243whp-257 torque on the same dyno so puny in comparison....I'm lucky its 250lbs lighter!!!!

Thanks for doing that today. I'm happy with the numbers. Next big test is door to door on track. Winner buys the beer.

Wow. Data speaks.

How, if you don't mind sharing, do you make those L Jet adjustments?

Very big numbers, about 20 hp more than I would have expected. Anything special on the exhaust?

That was the setup I originally planned for my US 83 5 spd, keep the US intake and FI, and use a Euro or Euro hybrid long block.

as always I (& Sean) are open books to 928ers.....

1: How did we add fuel...super easy...."clicks" on the AFM....so basically you reduce spring tension in clicks to increase fueling....or the barn door opens FASTER...so the L jet adds more fuel....this is also what I did on the Estate...worked great but took much more to get the Euro running right...13 clicks come to mind today

2: Exhaust: MSDS headers into straight pipe 3.5" system.....with flow through mufflers....exact same setup as my racer....(with 30 less HP :>(

Bottom line....it all comes down to who crosses the line 1st..... Sean and I have very similar cars...his has more power but is a bit heavier....mine has less power but is 250lbs lighter.... Hopefully we can produce some excellent video just before the 25 hour race....

MINE isnt...and FWIW, most of the racing market made the same decision..its possible...but it would be easier to do it for ME..if it was already an entirely trashed car..but still, Id me more likely to find my fun in a competative momentum car.

No Y or X? No cats?

I wonder why so lean? You would think over time the spring would get weaker, maybe a worn track on the AFM?

Both racers have a Y pipe...since its a single system....however if I was running a serious motor 928 racer I would run a dual system.....since they make more TORQUE....and everyone knows torque wins races and HP sells engines...
