MaxJax - Christmas Present fo your 928? Costco Deal
My Costco on-line-only sale email came in this week. They are once again showing the MaxJax lift for $2k delivered. This triggered the last group buy coordinated by Herman K a couple years ago now. There are several threads discussing the usability of the MaxJax with your 928, so I won't go into that end of it. The Costco deal is pretty darn good compared with normal channels. Worth a look at Costco.com if your somebody is still searching for that perfect gift for the 928 enthusiast. I certainly enjoy having mine in the garage, as do others who have had the need to use it.
** Normal Disclaimer: I have no direct interest in MaxJax or Costco, except as an indirect shareholder. My retirement will not be materailly affected based on any group or group members' decisions to buy or not buy a MaxJax. ** So There...

Saw that too, noticed they characterize it as "portable" ... wonder what that means exactly, surely you have to securely attach it to the floor, so portable in the sense you can unbolt it and move it somewhere later ?

Thanks for the heads up, Bob, will have to see whether the garage will be 'done' enough to pull the trigger and store it 'til the house is finished.

Moving the columns also involves removing the arms from the columns. I hang the arms from the columns when not in use, strapped to the column sides to preserve some floor space I'd otherwise have to dedicate to their storage.
One of our 928 group members has mounted the hydraulic unit on the wall rather than having it on the floor on its rolling cart. That makes the lift less transportable. But it's on my list of things to do, since floor pace is precious and I have extra hose lengths now.
******
Might be worth a call to Gabe at GES (the US Danmar importer/distributor) for another group buy, especially if group members want extras like more anchors (for more column spacing options), extenders, maybe extra hose and hydraulic fittings. Perhaps a show of hands for folks interested?

watching the video I have a question on how it is secured to the floor.
I was under the impression that when it was unbolted you were left with "studs" (so to speak ) left in the floor? You're not?
The video shows BOLTS going into holes...not nuts going on a stud.
What anchoring system is used with it? Specifically what goes into the concrete and remains that the bolts are threaded into? Links. thnx.

I have one, and it get's used a lot. My only issue is I wish it went up another 4". If it did it would be a bit more comfortable to sit under. As it is, I have to use a fairly low stool to sit under it. Don't get me wrong... It's WAY better than not having it.

The anchors are very strong if properly drilled and inserted in the concrete.

No issues with the anchors they supply. You can get plastic plugs for the holes for use between lifts. If you have 8' ceilings in your garage and can manage the garage door a little, your 928 will sit fine on the MaxJax. For the new house we are building, I figured that I needed 10' if I want to lift the Honda Pilot on 6" extensions, and have room for the garage door to fit against the ceiling too. I have a 12"-tall creeper seat, and it's OK with the MaxJax. I need to be careful not to bump my head on the lift arms, but for 5'11" me, sitting on the seat is about right for under the car at 48" off the floor.
There's a pretty extensive thread series in this forum with discussions from folks who have them with folks looking at them. A little searching will hep with your decisions. I'm very happy with the MaxJax, and willing to forego the extra couple feet of lift that a full-size two-post lift offers in trade for the ability to roll the MaxJax completely out of the way when I don't need it. Set-up and tear-down takes five to maybe ten minutes if I'm moving really slow. It's way too covenient, and it's way less strain on my tired bones. I wish it had been available twenty years ago.

We picked up a four post lift from these guys a while back. We've been extremely happy with it for use in servicing and storing our cars - http://www.derekweaver.com/4-post-lifts/?sort=priceasc
