Shark Tuner & Knock Question
Was doing some data capture to see whats going on under WOT 1-2nd gear, just playing with the new cams...etc.
Id get maybe 8 knocks in a run, meh...but what was odd, is that almost EVERY run, I would see the whole map go -6d, and the red light of "knock retard" comes on..and it does not age away, stop/start car, its gone.
No signs of any sensor errors..ideas?

The knock sensor leads may have insulation cracked and flaking off. This exposes the screen braid. So when you do a WOT run, the braid touches adjacent metal and this creates enough electrical noise to trigger the -6 degrees universal retard.

Jeff, we get the same thing with our S4, occasionally-- log data for a while and the knock-retards suddenly all go to -6 deg and stay there until the ignition gets turned off.
It's a transient sensor fault, most likely one of the knock-sensors as John said. In our case the culprit was the rear knock-sensor, we caught it by watching the ignition-monitor page. Or just change the knock sensors if that hasn't already been done.

So... what? Parts that are 30 months old can't be bad?
Check the sensor connections first, they are easier to get to than the sensors-- two knock sensors and the hall sensor, and don't forget temp-II. Also check for toasted/funky harness wiring and connectors, the knock-sensor connections are shielded all the way back to the EZK. The shields, and the shield connections through the connectors, are important.
If no luck there then try to catch it on ST's ignition-monitor page. A co-pilot is advised.
