Default 1984 Widebody Conversion

This project has been ongoing for years. It has moved along so slowly that I never thought to make a thread up until now. There is finally some progress to report so I've decided it's time to start a thread. This car is a 1984 US 5 speed. It has always run very strong and it was actually the first 928 that I ever bought. It is the one that I took to SITM and Tail Of The Dragon a few years back. When I took it off the road I began doing the body mods. I deleted the rub strips, the radio antenna, and the rear wiper.

I already have a complete Rob Budd leather interior for this car. I just have to send it ( the leather and the car parts ) to Mr. Budd in order for him to install the leather onto the parts. The car will be getting a turbo system once the body mods are complete so that it's performance will be on par with it's looks. The wheels you see in the video are Work Brombacher's and are true three piece wheels. They are 18" diameter and 12" wide in the rear and 9.5" wide on the front. As you can see, the ride height is way up there right now due to being on jack stands for a few months.

The tail lights are the same as a Lambo Diablo. I'm not crazy about the rear yet. It needs something to break up all that negative space. I'm thinking the raised P-O-R-S-C-H-E letter that Nicole sells at Hooked On Cars will do the trick.

The color is the original Rauchquarzmetalik ( Smoked Quartz Metalic )

I like the way this is going. I'm curious, in the rear quarter shot after painting I don't see the seam between the bumper cover and the wheel flairs. Did you eliminate it?
On mine, the fabricator covered it over completely, so the aluminum flair and plastic cover appear as one. After a few years its now showing signs of stress marks.

Neil.

Going to be one sweet ride. I never thought I’d say this about a 928, but I could see gull-wing doors on that car.

Nice looking car Neil. Yes, the seam was eliminated. Originally I wanted to keep it but after bonding, the seam was just for looks and wasn't functional. There was no way to seperate the bumber cover from the body of the car without damaging it so I decided to just have the seam eliminated all together.

Thank you for the kind words. Originally I had planned on installing some Voodoo doors or angel wing doors but once I looked into how difficult it was going to be I decided against it. Those kits are engineered with steel components that have to be welded into the door. Our doors aren't steel so that isn't an option. Reproduction pieces would have to be made in aluminum in order to weld them in or you would have to re-engineer the kit in order to make it all work properly. Our doors have frames around the windows so they look a little silly when vertical anyway. So no, the doors will stay stock.

Car looks great! My front bumper is molded into the fenders. One project will be to make it removable again.

Hey! Ken!! I thought you left this place. How have you been? If you want this body kit I might know where there is another.

By the way. The reason the car is so loud is becasue there isn't any exhaust on the car. I took it off at the cat becasue I need to build a new dual exhaust to fit the rear bumper cover.

Wow! That's a ton of work right there. I remember that car at SITM... kept overheating. It sure is cool now! Keep it up!
