Brake Sensor cable connector - what is the best repair?
Question for the experts here. 89 S4.
Any insights on how to repair this? I found the part number for the support part on the parts manual (928 612 531 00), but seems the wire connector itself is the part with the problem. Would I have to replace the entire wiring assembly? Any other alternative?
You can also see that the wiring that goes down to the brakes has its external insulation falling apart too. I can replace that piece and is relatively inexpensive (if there is such a thing in 928 world).
Thanks in advance

Replacing the barrel connector is best done as a harness replacement from 928Intl (1/2 price used parts sale coming soon) or patiently waiting for a ABS wiring harness from a cooler part of the country to show up on eBay. The male connector is a part of a harness that runs under and through the body of the car. My barrel connector and both of my male connectors crumbled to dust. The car lived all of its life in Huntsville, AL. I bought replacement male connectors from 928Intl. The challenge is splicing the wires because they have shielding on them. I have yet to repair the connectors for this reason.
And it is pretty likely that the other male connector is toast or soon to be. Sorry.

I just finished this project about a month ago.
I used new brake sensors modified slightly on the plastic ends to fit into the barrel connectors and just purchased a new ABS assembly (which gets you a new barrel connector) for each front wheel. After 20+ years the heat in the engine bay just destroys any plastic.
SeanR did the diagnostic and respliced one connector. I did make the mistake thinking one connector was not spliced right when in fact Sean found that it was the ABS wheel speed sensor that had gone bad...
