Question S4 Slotted Chrome " Factory Wheels "?

In August I purchased a Pristine Black 74K 88 S4. The car has what look to be "Factory" Chrome Slotted wheels with matching caps. I have been unable to determine if they were an option in 88 or did the original owner "Paul Stanley" have them done. I have a photo from the showroom floor at Porsche Beverly Hills which show the wheels on the car. This question has been made even harder to answer because the often missing option code sticker is missing from the car. I am a newbie 928er with the hope one of you purists may be able to help.

Thanks in Advance
Robert

They may be the original factory wheels but they were not chromed by the factory. That was not an option that I have ever heard of.

Welcome, and how about some photo's of that beauty.

While not chrome from the factory, I wouldn't be surprised if the original selling dealer had them chromed when new, as a "dealer added accessory", and probably charged a small fortune for the "upgrade".

Porsche actually advised against chrome plating but many dealers had it done since explaining that the wheels were SUPPOSED to be dull got to be tiresome...So NO never a factory option...

I purchased my '87 S4 new and am the only owner. It had the manhole covers and, as far as I know, there was no chrome option.

My car came from Beverly Hills Porsche when new. The wheels were chromed when the car was new, possibly as a dealer add on. I have all the receipts of all work since new and there is a note on one of them about Porsche saying "don't chrome the wheels". So the dealer has them chromed apparently and then when the customer has an issue Porsche says, "hey dumbass, we told you not to chrome them".

Here's a 1990 TSB that says don't chrome the wheels. It appears to supercede an earlier one. My '90 GT had chromed D90's, which was flaking off and caused one to have an annoying slow leak. Not a big fan of chrome rimz...

Smile Thank You All

Thank you for the info pertaining to the Chrome Wheel issue. I had similar thoughts about the Chroming at Dealerships. And yes my friend that is in fact my car in the photo. Thank you for that link that clears up several questions. I love the car. It is beautiful but needy.
