Hello. Just recenlty picked up an '87 auto. I was wondering if anyone knew which usually went out first in the 8 speaker system... The head unit, or the factory amp?

The hu turns on and everything but just get some crackling through the speakers. No sound. I do plan on replacing everything but just wanted to do the headunit first so I have some sound then the amp later (not going to use HU power, I will find a small amp to replace factory amp)....

Just wondering .

Replace all the speakers, too. Technology has moved on, quite far, in this respect.

Yeah definitely. I do like to listen to some of my vintage home stereo stuff now and then though. The old infinity Kappa's still sound as good as anything today. They just require a real Amplifier.

I will eventually replace speakers but that's down the list....
