Ya..Id consider it dead. Theyre not pricey from 928intl I dont think.

Thanks Brian, I'll keep that in mind.

I was shocked to see they had popped back out. My understanding was that once collapsed they stayed that way and had to be replaced.

They do that sometimes but trust me it will give you issues if re-used. Also even though that bumper cover is red and in good shape it will still need to be paint matched to your car. Hope it all works out well for you Charlie.

Interesting note. Allstate would allow up to $9,800 in repairs before totalling the '88.

It appears I'm in good shape.

FWIW the bumper shocks are one time use, meaning once they have been compressed then they need to be replaced,
even though they may pop back out or you pry them out , the crash resistance is gone.

IDK if the early cars rear shocks are the same as the S4
IIRC the fronts are different from early to late.

928 INTL is having the half price sale so you could get S4 shocks buy one get one free

OB bumper shocks are different than S4 and later.
