I've heard John's pull away from one of our beer nights, and it is a head turner, sounded really nice.

I looking to replace the warn out Pumpkin on the 85, not as easy as the S4 type exhaust on the 86.5

Dan's probably on an airplane somewhere right now, here's the thread on that particular exhaust. It's an H-X, no drone.

pics were during fabrication - this is not the current on-road stage.

I installed a set of magnaflow and am very happy with the sound. since the magnaflow are straight through it creates an open throat'ed sound - from a growl to a howl.

my 84 auto is my preferred DD, so did not want too loud.

solution? headers into a 2.5" x 2-input and single 3" out where the CAT would go.

added a magaflow 3" in/out X 5" round (not shown) where the pumpkin would go to bring down to a nice sound. not loud and only a minor drone with both mufflers in place.

can easily remove the end muffler and install an extension for an even louder and better howl / sound.

Magnaflows!!!!! Went from Pumkin (no power, no sound), to RMB (too loud), to big a$$ coffee can (still too loud), to magnaflow (just right). Smooth, no drone............sounds great with throttle!

I'd like to say Borla. But from past experience- Magnaflow. I like the sound of flowmaster 40s but can't abide by the restriction caused by the directional veins.

Running one high flow muffler on either side will be loud, I have two resonators ahead of the primary muffler. Revers can work too- primary mufflers left/right and resonator at the end. Cat presence/absence/configuration also weighs heavily on sound/noise.

Fitment can be done- shown is a medium case Magnaflow with internal x.

Both.

I actually have both.

The Borlas are currently on, one on each side:

Video with sound

The Magnaflows will become the alternative, quiet exhaust with a oval cross-over tube and an additional 4" rear muffler that will combine the pulses the second time after an unequal flow path:

Neither brand will restrict power when the right muffler is chosen. Neither brand will on it's own produce a nice or quiet exhaust note. It's the complete exhaust layout that matters, the location of cross-overs, the length of sections between mufflers, etc. Any seemingly trivial choice in fabricating the exhaust is going to make a bigger difference to the sound than the choice between these two muffler brands.

So choose based on price and what fits the best for your optimal space?
