Default NY/NJ/CT/PA anual Thanksgiving Run

Its that time of the year again, the trees are almost bare, the air is brisk and every one is getting ready to put there cars away for the winter. For many of us this will be the last run of the season so lets make it a good one. We had almost 40 cars show up through out the day last year and the run to hawks nest was great. This year I am asking for some help on the route, we have a few options. We can do the bear mountain to hawks nest run again or we can plan a new route. As many of you know I am down in PA at college and cant hunt for roads on the weekend so if any one has some route suggestions please send them to me. Lets make this a great last run!

Date: November 24 2012
Start time: 8:00 AM
Start Location: rye Beach Pharmacy (Across the street from Rye Playland) Rye NY
Route:
1. Meeting Point 1: Rye beach Pharmacy parking lot, 8:00 A.M.

2. Leave Rye around 8:30 A.M.

3. Head over the Tappan Zee Bridge and pick up the Palisades PWKY heading north.

4. There is a small strip mall right off exit 13 on the palisades parkway. It should take us about 45 min to get there so lets say around 9:15 at (14 Thiells Mount Ivy Road Pomona, NY 10970). This will be the meeting spot for the people coming from New Jersey.

5. We will then head north to Bear Mountain state park for a drive around those great roads.

6. From the park we will pick up route 17A and head towards Port Jervis NY.

7. We will then meet at Arlene & Tom's Restaurant (265 East main Street Port Jervis NY 12771). This should be around lunch time so we will pull in for an early lunch here.

8. From there we will head down route 97, through the famous hawks nest road and continue on down 97 which is a great drive. We will continue down 97 until people need to head home.

This thread is also posted on Pelican (911 section) I will update both as often as I can but please check both places for the most recent updates.

Regards
Dave

No need to excuse yourself. Just got power back Friday. I wonder if Pete (El Greco) is closing shop that weekend...if so, we'll be up.

Barring any issues, I should be on my way along with Pete and I will spread this to the Metro NY 928 OC!

Do you mean Route 17 or 97 (last step) for Hawk's Nest Road?

Dave-just got this from a 928 OC member: Be careful going through sparrowbush and the hawks nest due to police presences. Speed trap yesterday around 3:30pm (Sunday).

Ill keep that in mind, I saw a few cops last year, there was one right where the road begins quite well hidden. The nice parts of the road dont have much of a shoulder so they have no place to hide but we have not had a problem on any of our drives yet.

So there has been a slight change in plans. A fellow Rennlister informed me that Rye Playland has its parking lot closed off after damage from sandy. So the new meeting place will be Rye Beach Pharmacy parking lot. This is right across from the Playland parking lot entrance, there is also a gas station right there so people can fill up if need be. It should be empty at 8AM and in case anyone does not see this change of plans they will see us across the street. See you all Saturday.

Regards
Dave

Do we have an ETA for Bear Mountain? A few drivers want to meet up with us and continue the run from there.

assuming no traffic I would say 10AM-ish. If we get to Pomona and spend 30 min there it should only take about 15 to get to bear mt. If they want to drive down to Pomona to meet us they could do that as well.
