Jumping blower relay

Jumping blower relay
I have just started working on my new (old) 84 5 speed after having the timing belt service done after I bought it...it was sitting is storage for 5 years and it needed to be done. So after noticing the blower is not working and checking that it does work on defrost, I checked the fuse and its fine. But I would like to be able to test the relay by jumping it before buying a new one but am not sure what terminals to jump. Anybody done this to check it before? Thanks in advance....

The blower in my '89 has been causing me issues as well.
The relay is a standard 53B, so connect pins 30 and 87.
REMEMBER, the power feed to that socket is NOT switched - the blower will run even with key off and out.
I used an in-line switch with long pig-tails with spades on the other ends. After I insert the spades into 30 and 87, I can switch the "blower relay bypass" on and off for trouble-shooting.

Thanks, bad relay as I figured...but now that I look at it I think I could have just used another of the multirelays there on the board to replace it to check if its good or not...I think the starter relay is the same.

Easier still the horn relay is the same - and its an easy place to quickly test a relay too..
You may not have a bad relay - possibly just a fault in what normally turns it on... this could be as simple as the head unit not being plugged in properly...

right when you flip the switch on the wall and your bathroom stays dark....is it the switch , the wiring, the bulb or is all the power off in the house ?? Knowing the sequence of things start at one end and work toward the other.
Since your blower fan works on defrost my money is on a head unit issue not telling the bimetallic speed relay in the ducting at the cowl (not on the fuse/relay board)to turn on. You can check to see if it is getting power at the plug which you can see outside the duct.

You might consider removal and complete cleaning of CE panel and replacement of fuses, along with the critical relays. Replacing AFM, Injector and fuel pump relays is appropriate. I say this because the car is old and it sat.
