did you have the engine running when the car was in the air? did the rear wheels spin? did you see the torque convertor spin?

Don't put it in reverse, with your body back there looking under the car, in case the thing decides to suddenly engage and move!

Don't forget, I've still got a couple brand new factory transmissions, complete with torque convertors and limited slips, in stock, for immediate delivery.
Thanks Greg, I guess.
I'm not clear on where to observe the spinning of an output flange.

Malcolm, I did not have it running. I was expecting (and hoping) to see the linkage detached. After I get instruction on where look, I will go back and check things.

ok.......with the engine running the torque tube shaft should be spinning which spins the torque convertor, once verified check the wheels spin when in gear (ca in the air, safely on jack stands etc).

If the torque convertor is spinning the issue is narrowed to the gbox, diff, shafts etc.

what colour is the tranny fluid? age?

Will go back and look at converter status.
ATF red, changed last year or about 10-12k ago.
Also checked status of rear pinch bolt at about that time. Position and torque OK.
Still would like to know where to observe the output flange spinning so I could check at the same lift.

It rolling after being shut off in park is what confuses me. Seems it should stay in park if the linkage came free.

Or did it land in neutral when the linkage came free, during transition?

Gregg is suggesting the tranny o/p flange will be spinning, engine started, gbox in a drive gear but not the shaft and consquently not the wheel. With the car in the air follow the shaft from the rear wheels to tranny, you'll find the o/p flange.

good to know re. fluid and pinch bolt

Malcolm,
Back at mission control with laptop.
ATF drained and changed from torque converter and pan when done.
Will flatbed to my garage and to the deal tomorrow.
Thank you very much.

Craig, how are you making out? have you narrowed down what might be the cause?

Hey Bob,
How are you.
I'll get it home tomorrow. Multiple soccer championship games today and parking lot packed. Plus other things today as well.
Sorry I missed you at Owl's Head this summer.
Your new Car looks Great. Best Wishes with it.

before you run the car in drive then go under it to look ..dont do this....

FIRST jack it up and inspect the half shafts to see if one has come loose from its mount point on the trans output flange.
There isnt much that can cause the trans not to go into park with the shifter ..
UNLESS you might have put the car into park while it was still moving in that case internal damage may have occurred to the park pawl

I wouldn't have done that, and didn't.
I actually put a fair amount of miles on that day. Nice back country road driving up here. Pulled in to park the car. Started her up 20 minutes later and no shift. Put in Park and she started to roll down the slight grade I was on.
