Carl's Cam Gears

Carl's Cam Gears
Greetings,
I purchased a couple of Carl's cam gears last year to install on the '90 GT I was resurrecting. I recall all the discussion when Carl first posted about this product but figured what the heck ... and volunteered. My first timing best job and had the time to do it again if I ran into any issues with the gear.
While I know that I do not have 100,000 miles on these gears, I thought I would report back after my summer of driving. The GT is up and running fine and I got about 3,000 km on the engine.
Gears were replaced with new oil gear, crank gear, water pump, and Ken's tensioner. So, with a new belt, I could ensure there would be nothing that could cause wear to the gears (other than my assembly skills).
Here are some pictures I took after removing the drivers side cover. The gear still looks good (new) and has not turned from original install. There is no funny wear on the belt ... so no complaints.
The engine has had many high RPM runs on it (GT is a blast of a car) and a few great highway runs of longer distance. Lots of stop and go (rush hour) etc. No babying of the engine due to the gears.
Again, I expect there will be some flames coming my way as this is not 100,000 miles but only one season of summer driving (as work allows).
Looking to hear back from any else that installed these gears. Just sharing my experience to date (note that light spots are reflections from the worklight)

Im sure there'll be much discussion at 3rd coast followed by results announcement with timing for general release.
I'll be installing this solution on the GTS with the Porkensioner this winter.

Yup, I wish they were available when I did mine. They are almost identical to the factory parts and I can guarantee you there won't be any BS about them being soooo superior and hold tension better than the factory parts.

There wasn't any BS last time, either. Our gears have a thicker section under the cogged teeth. That's not BS, its a fact. You saw it in the pictures.
Whether it will result in longer life than the OEM version, that we cannot yet know. I'll answer that in 100,000 miles. But between the extra rigidity the thicker section provides, and our coating being harder than the factory coating - I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted longer than OEM. That was our plan and we engineered for it.
Glenn, thanks for posting. I know they work fine (I have raced mine all summer) but its always good to hear from an impartial third party. Thank you for taking the time and effort to remove your cam covers after 3000 Km to get photos for these guys.

I needed to replace my timing gears and bought a factory set thru a friend, for $744.00 total cost delivered to my place in Vegas. These are OEM timing gears not reproduction.
I have no idea what they cost retail, or what aftermarket gears cost, but I figured it was a great deal. It looks to me like Carl has produced a better gear than factory. I don't drive my 928 enough to worry about puting 100K on it. Hell at my age the car is gonna outlast me anyway.
