Default Digital Dash AWOL

Car is a '89 5 spd.

Made a short stop on my way home Sunday (very hot, 100+). Hopped back in the car about 10 min later and the car starts right up, but digital dash is dead.

No:
Digital display
Oil pressure gauge (comes off the peg but sits at 1-1/2 and doesn't move)
Tach
Speedo
Temp gauge
Gas gauge (this seems to have come back last time I started the car).

Working:
Volt meter
Gas gauge (maybe)

"Check Engine" light is on along with brake pad light & seat belt light.

Checked for a blown fuse - didn't find any. Disconnected the battery and left it disconnected overnight - no help (except maybe the gas gauge).

Anyone figured out this gremlin? Didn't really find much using search. TIA

Check fuse #24(IIRC) ...especially if your Interior Lights are no longer working.

Cheers,

Dave

Typically it is fuse #24 10amp and it's red.

The DR is correct!

The usual cause is that there is another item that has a bad ground somewhere in the dash. I would suggest that you carry a few 10's for a bit until you get the other one tracked down.

Wow! Thanks Dave.

Found a blown 10 amp fuse where there's supposed to be a 7.5 amp fuse! Stuck in a new 7.5 amp fuse & everything seems to be back to normal. Would not have thought to check fuse #24 (Tailgate Pulse & Interior Lights) for these symptoms. Thanks again Dave.

James

Thanks to Michael too - He must have posted while I was out checking the fuse... Real time responses!

James,

Looking at several sources the fuse can vary between years.

PET shows for a 7.5. Guess that is the final say. FWIW other years are 5 amp and 15 amp.

I figured somwhere in the middle might work as well.

Michael
