Default Suggestions for small 'printed' plastic parts.

In deference to Mike Frye's thread ( https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...tch-motor.html ) about printing a replacement hatch gear.

I would like this thread to contain a list of replacement parts that owners would like to have considered to be reproduced using that technology.

PLEASE limit your suggestions to parts already 'constructed' for a 928. I would prefer that this thread did not get swamped by all sorts of 'wild' suggestions.

Two suggestions that come to mind:
1 - the adjustment lens tabs for the fog & driving lights on S4 & later.
2 - The bush at the rear of the electric seat where the adjusting rod slots in. (I have been trying to source a replacement for years). Also on a S4

I'd say:
3. The rear hatch gear and
4. Odometer gear

Could both easily be done. I know the odo gear is a wear item. I'm the only one I know of who has a chewed up rear hatch gear. These things tend to go bad at the same time for cars of the same vintage though, so maybe I'm among the first since my '85 has 235k miles on it.

The ball socket in the S4+ (8 inch) head light lenses. I have 2 of them and one has a ball socket with a missing finger.

1. The hex-keyed plastic center post on the plastic brackets holding the rear fuel lines? (see pic below). The price has recently shot up towards insane levels (I sourced old stock that was still cheap). Replacing the part that breaks on disassembly might be cost effective?

2. Plastic gas cap pawls like the factory ones
(I realise John Pitman made metal blanks)

Excellent point.

FYI, ODO gears are already made and affordable on Rennbay. Used and reviewed with great success, myself included.

I bought a rennbay one via Roger, for a metric (kph) speedo in my 87 5-speed S4. It didn't fit - wrong tooth count, wrong size, and the tooth shape was less than inspiring, despite being advertised as being for a metric (RoW) 87 S4. (it could be that Auto '87 S4's use a different gear to 5-speed? dunno)

Roger has since changed to a different odo gear provider, and I've installed (the 20x30) gear and its working fine - thanks to Dwayne's write-up

The rennbay ones may be fine for mph - but the ones I had and tried to install weren't correct.

To add content for this thread:

The other part in the odo I figured will need replacing at some point is the intermediary gear. Now that the last of the geared odo's (87/88) are failing and having their main drive gear replaced, its just a matter of time before we start to see failures of the middle gear, probably in the earlier cars.

Someone on the Aussie list recently inquired about switching both gears on his ex-UK car so that the odo started ticking over for kilometers - but of course that middle gear isn't available.

If someone can get me some measurements or actual parts for these things I can mock them up and see if they're going to work.

Center console "H" trim piece that breaks so easily or has been hacked by POs.

Mike, what is your XYZ range?

If you mean the build envelope, mine is about 200x200x100mm or about 8"square and 4" high.

Great offer, Mike - thanks. BTW that WAS NOT the purpose of this thread (in case someone is wondering).

I will try to extract a seat adjuster bush and measure for you. I can supply a 3d cad line file if that helps .

Cheers,
Myles

Auto shifter handle

I keep thinking of more things, but they are... not factory parts.

87-93 mirror motor parts - little white serrated plastic piece that fails forcing you to buy the whole mirror motor.

Ken,

Not sure about the auto shifter handle. The print quality on these is definitely NOT something you would want on display. The highest resolution between layers still makes it easy to distingqish between them.

They are sandable and paintable (and you can drill, tap and cut them) but I'm not sure it would be something good enough for an interior part.

Ken, if you want to come up with some non-standard issue parts, it's no difference to me.

Myles, if you want to send me some 3d files that would be great. The hard work is designing (which isn't really all THAT hard) once I have the files I just click print and wait.
