Default What am I missing here?

Every once in a while I look in on ebay and I see a beautiful guards red 1994 928 with low miles and the guy wants almost $100,000 for it. It's been there for many months if not years. Now, I love my '87 and, when I purchased it new at the factory it was worth $70,000 more or less. So, does this guy just like to show off his car or is he a fortune teller waiting for the guy who is just gonna come along some time.

Nice car though.

I am pretty certain that the car Bjbpe saw is this one Depami linked to from Wilhoit. He posts them on ebay too.

Bjbpe - he's not showing off his cars - he's a genuine seller and those will be sold for probably not far off their asking price. He's sold more than one GTS for >$100k in the last couple of years.

Do a search here on Rennlist for "Wilhoit". He also posts here from time to time.

Seems to be a certain slice of 911, 928, etc, that are highly preserved and trade like fine paintings between owners, sometimes with brokers in between.

And nearly everyone who buys one of these Wilhoit cars eventually posts saying how pleased they are with it and that they paid a fair price for what they got.

What has not been mentioned is the time factor. If you have a (quality) product and are not in a hurry, you can push the envelope, price it at the top of the range and wait. If you need cash fast, or you just want to move the merchandise to make room for something else, you price it accordingly. Why do you think bananas are sometimes .49/lb and sometimes .79? Michael is in the enviable position of not having to move these bananas, they don't rot, and seem to be increasing in value.

Lastly, If the market were moving downward, you would see it reflected in his prices; he tends to lead to the upside and lag to the down.

Willhoit does ask premium prices for his cars - but I am a believer in you get what you pay for (most of the time). I purchased my 911 from him several years ago and the car was worth every penny. I also just purchased a 928 GTS from him, and although the car has not been delivered yet, everything I have ssen on the vehicle leads me to believe I paid a fair price for the vehicle, convenience and level of service recieved. Willhoit has been in business a long time and has made a reputation of delivering fine automobiles to his customers - most buy sight unseen. When you get to a point where you just don't have the time or the patitience to do all of the searching, researching, transportation, title-work, and negotiating to find a nice car, his offerings become more reasonable to many.

Without a doubt, the 928 that I see on ebay is beautiful. Unfortunately for me, I would have to sell the house and live in the car to be able to buy it. I suspect that would get old fast.

I don't think my house would buy any of his cars!
