I would get that flywheel skimmed, it looks crispy. Here's the minimum spec for flywheel thickness for your machinist dude:

RE: getting the ring off the intermediate shaft, a dremel perhaps?

When removing the flywheel, my suggestion is to find a MAC or a Snap On
star socket. Squirt some Kroil or similar onto the bolts. Do not go to one of the cheap auto parts store
to buy the tool. If you round out one of the bolts.....argh
But Rob is correct about having the flywheel turned. Mine was way out of whack.$40
Think about replacing the main seal while you are in there. Oh, replace the upper
plastic bushing on top of the bell housing. Also I suggest replacing any nuts you loosened at the header flanges with new ones. Habit of mine
Aren't those MSDS headers fun?????

I can wash it off w/ my torch, or if you prefer, I can turn it down in the lathe. Both options wont be available until Sunday. Well, maybe I could do it late tomorrow night but my time is going to be pretty much taken with getting the finishing touches on putting my car back together and giving it a bath in time to go to the Daytona meet on Saturday. My flight doesn't arrive in Orlando until about 3pm if there aren't any delays. You ARE still coming, right? Oh, another option might be to use a puller. Use a grinder to make that groove a little flatter so the puller jaws can grab. A little heat on the race and a little shop air or ice on the shaft will do wonders as well. The heat causes the race to grow and the cold causes the shaft to shrink. I've gotten tons of things apart like that. Try it, it's almost free.

The central shaft has a ridge and will not let the bearing slide all the way down. Since this old bearing was bonded to the shaft I do not know if this needs to rest on the ridge or the ridge was created by the heat.

Go figure my lift is now tied up until next week my BMW shifter cable broke now I have to work on the ground. What are the specs on that tool; now how to hold the crank in place while I remove the bolts.

Nope, sorry. I need to buy it though. The last time I removed a flywheel it was with a Torx or some such close facsimile. I forked up all the bolts and my socket. Here, try this place tomorrow. They have TONS of hard to fins tools and some are at very good prices.

In case the shaft Fabio has is not the correct one where can I find one; the front portion of the splines is 60MM. This is for an 82 but clutch has been replaced before and has been modified so no telling what year is installed.

Fabio was kind enough to lend me a shaft so now I need to purchase one to replace it with, looking for any sellers.

What about this MOS2 grease is it available locally?

The manual is kind of nebulous about two types of grease HT and the MOS2 for different parts and different years used on the assembly what are you using and on what parts?
Thanks
P.S.
I am ordering a replacement bearing for the release arm from Roger.
