Default Pre eBay sale: '85 5.0 block for you hybrid guys... $400 takes it

I have a complete long block out of an '85 with 102k miles on it. Its dirty but the pistons and bores look good and it would make a great inexpensive starting point for a rebuild or hybrid project. This came out of a running '86 but I do not have any compression numbers so I’m selling it cheap. I was going to tear it down and clean it up, fly cut the pistons and reassemble. But instead, I'll just let one of you guys have all the fun. What's the going rate for '85 blocks these days, $750? Well you can have this one for $400 but you'll have to come and get (zip 21784) as I'm not going to be able to ship it. That's the catch. I'm sure someone out there wants to build a hybrid motor...

The dipstick tube makes it an early '85? (Best for cylinder wall thickness, IIRC.)

What's the block#? 81F or G?

(Just curious.)

remember when I rebuilt my S4? it's got some time-bomb problems, I think it threw a rod at one point in its past, there's chunks taken out of the girdle and the skirt of one of the pistons, and some other damage in there. I actually was betting 50/50 of it working after I re-did the heads. Got lucky this time, but want to start banking parts for the inevitable.

Word. I'll trade ya that rebuilt HVAC head for buying rights?

That should make your wife happy!

the 85-86 is NOT a good basis for building an 87> motor. Knock sensor holes, studs vs head bolts, compression too high to mention a few.

It would appear that 5.0 short blocks are "worth" more than $400
