Has anybody had any experience in rebuilding their AC compressor using Griffiths 6E171 Seal Kit?
Or is it just better to buy a rebuilt unit or a new unit?
Any prices?
It's for my 91.
Thanks

Are you sure you have a 6E171? As of 90 the model is 10PA20.
Anyway, I just did this a few weeks ago. The Griffiths kit looks complete. Usually there is a kit for the shaft seal and you have to get the body seals separately, this kit has everything in one.
Rebuilding isn't difficult, it just takes time and a lot of cleaning. One tip: when you remove the front and rear covers, the reed valve plate is stuck to the covers. It looks like you need to remove three philips head screws, but don't do that. The reed valve plate is stuck tightly to the cover because there is a gasket between them. I used a two arm pulley to get the plate off.

Get bottle of correct oil to lubricate all parts and seals.
Lastly, if the system is open, you will need a new receiver/dryer as well.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

That seal kit only fits up through 1989 (the 6E171 compressor).
Other options are:
1) A factory compressor with clutch,

2) Kuehl compressor kit
