Christian, there are many options and the best start is to give us the year of car you want to put it on.

I guess thats what i am asking. I have been looking on an off for a manual 928 for 18 months or so, just havent found what i want yet.

I would like to know whats the best car to build a super nice and quick car around. i have no desire to buy one of the last year cars and ruin its value by SC'ing it or put a turbo on it. I guess I am leaning toawrds a '87-'90 model car

Since you want the newer body style I would look for a good 87 since they have 9.5 compression from factory. Some time in 88 they raised it to 10.
Mike, Killav, has a rear mount turbo on his 87 that cost around 6000 with no inter cooler. There is also the Kuhn twin turbo kit that cost around 12000 with two inter coolers.

I would go with the 87-91 cars. You can either go Turbo or Supercharger and have the safety of the knock senors on the system.

The choices are large and varied when it comes to boost and opinions vary like the wind. Your best bet is to research each system: Murph supercharger, 9m Turbo, Robinson Turbo, Specialists Supercharger, Victor superchargers (just trying this one out myself and am very impressed), Kuhn, etc.

Lots to choose from and you get to do the homework and see what fits you best.

Also keep in mind that any 928 of that vintage 87-90 is going to need thousands of dollars getting it ready for boost. Kuhn's car benefitted from the prior owner having invested 10 K or so with Greg Brown at Precision fixing things to make it run like it did when NEW !

First buy an 87-91 car.
Then get the car running as it did from the factory. This could cost more than the cost of the car.
Think intake refresh, MAF, oil pan gasket, motor mounts, water pump, timing belt, torque tube, oil changes, rear wheel bearings, brakes, this list could go on and on.

Then boost the car. I did a custom mid mount turbo on my car and have done a custom rear mount too. I would not consider boosting a car unless I had it in my hands to get it up to spec first.

No ****. I thought mine was up to spec and found out it wasn't. All the little niggly stuff that go wrong will. You will soon find out the weak points on the car and you hope they will not destroy the engine.

But once you have that all squared away, damn son, it is fun.

For $6K, you can build your own setup AND bring the engine up to spec.

Actually YOU can and did just do not over estimate the abilities of others. Most think you should be able to bolt on a blower in a weekend and live happily ever after.
