Well whilst I was R & R my steering rack (failed steering shaft seals) I thought I would have a closer look at why my front height adjusters will not adjust and why it is sitting at possibly the lowest setting. Anyway got the spring compressors out to lift the springs somewhat up and off the collar so that I could get some movement/adjustment. It looks like the numpty
who replaced the original dampers with the Koni Reds failed to replace the sleeves and has simply put the collar back on to provide the necessary base support for the spring.
I find that I can easily tap the collar up by about 5 mils and am unable to see any sign of a sleeve.
Think I will leave this to my alignment shop to sort out and go and purchase some sleeves.
Cheers

The sleeves on the fronts are pretty short, certainly compared with those on the rears. It's pretty easy to 'lose' them inside the threaded collar. The threaded collar alone is too big to catch the nibs on the shock body, further pointing to the threaded sleeves likely being up in the collar and out of your view.

Hi Dr Bob, How would that explain why when I compressed the sping to gain some leverage on the collar/Nut and sleeve that I was able to literally lift one side of the nut by around 3-5 mm. I would have though if it was indeed attached to the sleevs (seized) that by lifting one side of the nut that it would lift uniformly???
I agree with your comments regarding the sleeve. The front sleeves are quite 'short' compared to the much, much larger rear sleeves. If, as you suggest, the threaded collar is sufficientlt wide enough to slip over the nibs on the lower end of the damper, then what would stop someone inadvertently adjusting too far down and the nut simply dropping through to the bottom of the damper?? If I look at the Koni Reds that are installed on my car they actually flare out (evenly and all around) from just where the nut is sitting at the moment and all the way to the botoom of the damper. Thus preventing (seemingly) preventing the nut from dropping to the bottom of the damper.
I am still thinking there is likely no sleevs and the nut is simply prevented from dropping to the bottom of the damper due to the flared design of the lower section of the Koni Red damper.
Cheers

Tony--
My experience is with the Boge and not the Koni's you have. At least on the Boge/Sachs units, the threaded sleeve fits down over the nibs in the shock slightly, and the collar threads on to the outside of that sleeve. The bottom tube doesn't flare or bell out below the nibs on the Boge/Sachs. Perhaps the Koni's are different.

I installed a set of Koni shocks and found that the internal collar will seat on the front shocks,
BUT they will not be firmly attached thus requiring the shock to be removed and then the adjustment made.
NOTE this was swapping out boges for the new Konies and using the old Boge adjusters

Steering rack replacement now complete. Installed Roger's Delrin bushes. But did note that the old rack had the metal alloy bushes installed. probably explains some of the perceived harshness at times felt through the steering wheel and occasional sense of metal on metal depending on road/bitumen quality. Now to get alignment and, importantly, fix my ride height issues in the front.
